Lovely pub out in the southern forest, we enjoyed a lovely meal with venison and gammon steaks. The owner came out to see us and tell us a bit about the venison's provenance and have a general chit chat - look out for the poacher's gun he found when renovating the property years ago! Good beers and friendly clientele made for a welcome retreat from a (very) wet day outside.
Very pleasant New Forest pub. Log fires, low beams and lots of rural life and New Forest history on display in the pub. Visited on a Friday evening for a meal. Busy with very friendly mostly local clientele. Quick service and great food. Thoroughly enjoyable.
Gorgeous little pub with lots of character, just had the food and was perfect. We are in a camper van and staying at the back for free what not to like. Local ale is really good too, highly recommended.
Lovely little pub. Great service tried so hard to get everything right. Joyously chaotic but in a good way. Friendly and enthusiastic. Food was delicious and prompt.. please go and visit
Whilst I would not say this is fine dining I would say this is a great place to come for a hearty pub lunch. 2 of us had steak and kidney pie and 2 had roast beef. All 4 of us loved what we had and left very happy. Nice pub, friendly atmosphere and we will definitely be back.
Totally ruined by weak management employing long term local "entitled" bar staff, serving below par food.
This used to be a very good country pub, with a great feel, friendly staff and good food, but now the place has really gone down hill.
The food - once terrific - I can now only describe as low standard. I won't say overpriced, as we understand prices have increased everywhere, but the quality is not good which cannot be blamed on fuel costs and food price increases. Hot food, served cold, with a look of disdain from one particular staff member who seems to believe a customer who dares complain about a hot dish served cold is his cue to tutter and roll his eyes, will not change my view that the pub has ceased to be the welcoming establishment many locals once knew.
Arrogant bar staff is not a good look for any business.
As an aside, all the new female staff and the new young male staff we have been served by, have been very polite and helpful. Unfortunately, it only takes one or two with their feet under the table and poor food to say enough is enough.
We have used the pub for over twenty years, but not anymore. There are plenty other forest pubs available now, who have upped the stakes and understand good food and the need for bar staff who understand their job description !
Met up for lunch with family in this traditional country pub. The food was great and, while service was a bit chaotic, the staff could not have been keener to get our order right and we're admirably good humoured. The atmosphere was lively, with lots of local customers and walkers.
FYI Imogen's booking
We had a great time!
Slightly chaotic but great fun!
The food was delicious. I highly recommend the game stew.
